Eco-schools program is an environmental award scheme, created by European Foundation for Environmental Education in 1994. It aims to increase environmental awareness and promote active environmental practical action. In our planet, eco-schools are recognized as the best models that carry out environmental education and promote school management and sustainable development. The UK's eco-schools are good examples for European eco-schools and even for the global eco-schools. It advocates the following ideas "living a green life", "creating green culture" and encourage the whole school to work together with the local communities, the students' parents, the local authorities, medias and the local enterprises and reach an certain target, It aims to make them have such ideas of environmental morality, ethics and environmental values and promote their environmental awareness and practical action and advance schools, local communities and even societies to develop in a sustainable process.Firstly , from the rise of the UK's eco-schools, this thesis expounds its theoretical basis , the Lucas Model, which consists of three parts- Education in or throughout the environment, Education for the environment and Education about the environment. Secondly, this thesis introduces the general situation about the UK's eco-schools and its four kingdoms. Generally speaking, the performance of the eco-schools in the UK can be in the top rank In view of the four kingdoms, the eco-schools in Scotland are developing rapidly these years. The eco-schools in England and Northern Ireland have a good developing basis. The eco-schools in Wales are not in a good process. Thirdly, this thesis introduces the four eco-schools awarding processes in UK: registering, carrying out eco-schools program, putting forward application for the eco-schools award and renovating the eco-schools award. It also expounds the classification of the eco-schools award and the valuation standard of the three levels of the eco-schools award. Fourthly, this thesis mainly expounds the seven topics that the UK's eco-schools involve in: water, energy, waste minimization, transport, school grounds, litter, and healthy living.
