The rapid changes of modern society, along with the effect of mass media, waken the functions of schools and families. Without the involvement of parents, it is difficult for the schools alone to fulfill the missions of education. Meanwhile, with the democracy instruction improved, the ideas of democracy expand to school management. It is necessary for families to take active attendance in decision-making, appraisal and program planning, etc.In foreign countries, a lot of research was conducted on home-school relationship early in the 1950s.In China, we didn't begin to pay attention to this issue until 1990s, however, researches and practice still remain on the initial stages nowadays. There are still many problems unsolved, for example, the roles of the parents, the coordination between schools and families. The insurance of the rights of parents and the transformation of the education system is key to the success of the education reform.The home-school cooperation in China hasn't made obvious progress and more suggestions are needed to the improvement of it. After the explanation of the concept of home-school cooperation, this article gave a historical review of the home-school situations both in America and China.
