On the groundwork of literature review, the own understanding of Mathematics Application (MA) is brought up, that is to cast the processes, achievements and spirits of abstract to the real world and hopefully to solve the real world problems. It further interprets the characteristics of MA from cultural perspective as follows:1. MA presents an elementary coupling manner for Mathematics and culture.2. It enjoys layered and rich contents.3. The problem is deeply related to culture. At the same time, the paper analyzes the factors of the MA level, including the knowledge points, expressions in language, relation between quantity, and the span between solutions of the problem and real contexts. And thus set up an intuitionistic pattern of the comprehensive MA level. On the old question of "the orientation of the MA in the Mathematics course", this paper, based on the criterions of the aforementioned understandings and pattern, adopting both quantitative and qualitative methods, compares the notion and problems of Mathematics courses in both Chinese and English junior middle schools. In the process of quantitative comparison, the application of the SPSS technique leads welt to the elaboration of the similarities and dissimilarities between the two, with the main conclusions listed as follows:1. Similarities: On the notion of the course, both Chinese and English Mathematics courses give prominence to the value of MA. They emphasize the MA in daily life, and science and technology. Both have layered goals and consistent contents. On the problems, both courses account for close proportions of the whole contents, and are identically distributed among the domains, of which the content area of data enjoys the most proportion, and the area of number and algebra enjoys the inclination. The situations of the problems in both courses are inclined to social service industry. Both of them take social problems into account. On the relation with other subjects, the degree descends from geography, to physics, to biology and to chemistry. The comprehensive application levels of two courses are close to each other. In addition, both of them have limitations in the design of problems in environmental protection.2. Dissimilarities: On the notion of the course, the Chinese course set MA as the goal, while the English counterpart sees it as a notion. The Chinese course aims at the content of the application, while the English aims at comprehensive ability. The Chinese apply the content area of...
