| The school motto refinedly sums the running-school principles, condenses the history and traditional culture of a school, is the common values between teachers and students, embodies the spirit of a school, is the soul and flag of a school has the guiding effect on every activity of school. The comprehension of universities and colleges' mottoes is a key to the study of campus culture and characteristics.By the survey of 281 universities at home and abroad, the writer has found that many high schools can not fully understand the meaning and the use of the school mottoes, do not emphasize the effect from its inner value or just regard mottoes as standards for the moral in a school while do not carry out it practically. The common problems, too much similarity, less traits etc, cause the unprecedented challenge of the solemnity of school mottoes. The source of which is the unclear and one-sided recognition of the cultivating function of school mottoes.Because of those, the writer thinks it is essential to study the cultivating function of high-schools' mottoes. This thesis analyses deeply clear and unclear function of school mottoes in the hope of comprehensive and sufficient recognition and further discovery on its cultivating function, by setting about cultural connotation of school mottoes; by probing into the basic traits of mottoes (such as the stability, the brand characters, refined appreciation quality, valued guidance quality, cultural ascription); by comparing mottoes with universities and colleges' tradition and spirit; by analyzing the cause of actuality and problems, by establish the foothold on the philosophy of human-beings' overall development and views on the culture and human-beings' overall development, and Finally based on referred theory proposes some suggestions and solutions on construction of school mottoes for reference so as to let the pearl-the school motto emit more brilliant rays in the cultivating process.
