At the beginning of the 21st century, a new curricula reform is going on in China. Mathematics inquiry learning is highlighted in the new curricula reform and new teaching materials. But from some papers on education and teaching practice feedbacks, we can see weaknesses in the theoretical researches and many problems in practice. So it is very necessary to do some systemic theoretical researches and to explore some feasible manipulative patterns, which is the very focus of the present study.The methods of the present study are composed of document analysis, questionnaire and case study. First we cast back the history of general theory of inquiry learning, then according to the characteristics of mathematics subject , we explore a series of problems, such as teaching patterns, teaching principles, inquiry contents, inquiry skills, the ability of problem posing and the ability of reflection, based on the new mathematics teaching materials and classroom teaching of senior high school . In this process, we have done some researches on teachers and students by questionnaire. Meanwhile several focus problems are dealt with in mathematics inquiry learning: (1)how to implement and embody the inquiry process of mathematics teaching;(2)how to harmonize inquiry time with inquiry efficiency;(3)what roles does multimedia play in mathematics inquiry teaching;(4)what roles do teachers play in mathematics inquiry teaching.The study indicates that, mathematics inquiry learning based on classroom and teaching materials is very popular among teachers and students. It has positive effect on fostering students'ability of observing, discovering, posing and solving mathematical problems. At the same time, we also recognize that there are some limitations in mathematics inquiry learning. So suggestions from teachers are given: the teachers should not have unilateral opinions and emphasis on mathematics inquiry learning, also should not have indulgent attitudes on mathematics inquiry learning.
