This thesis mainly comments on inquiry-based learning in senior high school. Students need to be nurtured to fully develop their abilities to become real thinkers. The most important aspect of inquiry-based learning is that students learn how to continue learning. This is something they can take with them throughout life — beyond parental help and security, beyond a textbook, beyond the time with a master teacher, beyond school, which they can apply in their individual learning throughout life. The research aims at describing and proving that inquiry-based learning plays an important role in senior high school, especially for learners' lifelong learning. After a series of questionnaires, the following facts are found: 1. It is very important and practical to carry out inquiry-based learning in senior high school. 2. Learning becomes more active and attractive to students. 3. Students are given more freedom to choose what they are interested in. 4. To students who have grown up in traditional, teacher-centered circumstances, the shift to student-centered cooperative groups can be misunderstood as an abrogation of responsibility on the part of the teacher and an opportunity to engage in meaningless play. 5. It is more difficult for teachers to assess the students' procedures on inquiry-based learning. 6. The public and the students' parents aren't aware of the importance of inquiry-based learning. 7. Teachers don't have enough multiple source of information — books, magazines, the Internet, and other technologies. The findings of this research indicate that inquiry-based learning does have good effects on the senior students. However, there still exist several problems. This thesis at the same time gives some suggestions for further research as well. In a word, this kind of new learning still has a long way to go in China.
