The independent college is a new school-running mode driven by the popularization of higher education that combines good educational resources with social capital. Since it came into being in 1999, the independent college system is developing rapidly and has become a hot topic of the reform and theoretical research of higher education. However, among its numerous problems, "Independence" is not only an important problem concerning the existence and development of the independent college in practice but a relatively weak one in theoretical research. According to the situation, this thesis does the systematic research mainly on the "Independence" of the independent college and by using article reference, question survey, data analysis and model study, it analyzes the theoretical and practical problems of "Independence" of the independent college from both macro and micro layers. And the thesis also tries to seek an autonomous way for the independent college. It shows its difficult positions and puts forward some relevant strategies and suggestions.This thesis consists of three parts.Part one (Chapter1-2) is a theoretical study of the "Independence" as it relates to the independent college. First, it does contrastive research from the definition and connotation of the independent college and defines the characteristics of "Six Independence". Then it generally describes the independent college's history from its inception to standardization.Part Two (Chapter3-4) looks at its practice of "Independence" within the independent college. By referring to some independent colleges in Jiangsu and Zhejiang Provinces, it's found that there exists dependence in the independent college system, such as the relationship between its major investor, cadre and personnel, etc. Then from the ideological perspective, theoretical research, policy and system, it analyzes the causes for this lack of independence of these colleges. Finally, by analyzing current practices operating overseas, the paper offers an alternative to the present situation from the respects of school-running characteristics, talent cultivation and system construction.Part three (Chapter5) predicts the future of the independent college and puts forward...
