| The importance of the cooperation of family and school is obvious enough. Since there are certain weak points in the traditional pattern of the combination of family and school, we must establish the pattern of the combination of the three of which the school is the leading part, the family is the basis and the society is the complement in order to match the requirement of the future society to the qualified personnel. This joined forces is most beneficial to the development of the students from 6—16 years old. In China, with the renewal of the policies for education and the penetration of the educational reform, the principle of the cooperation of family and school is quite different from the early ones like "the combination of family and school" and "the connection of family and school" in connotation, form and meaning. The writer attempts to probe into the pattern of the cooperation of family and school and offer clear-aimed suggestions on the basis of the combination of the theory and examples.Besides the preface, appendix and acknowledgement, the thesis is divided into four parts:The first part is "a panorama of the cooperation between family and school in elementary education". Four aspects are involved which are the theoretical basis of the cooperation of family and school including concepts, connotation and analysis of certain fields of study; the characteristics of the cooperation of family and school; the leading role of the cooperation of family and school and the significance of the cooperation of family and school.The second part is "the problems of the traditional educational pattern of the cooperation of family and school". The major problems lie in four aspects: weak planning and planning at will; one-way inculcation and less two-way communication; clear phase but weak continuity; poor understanding and less communication.The third part is "the reasons of the problems". One is the ideology problems of the decision makers of the school and teachers. The other is the ideology and ability problems of the parents and the different views towards the cooperation of family and school.The last part is the suggestions on the basis of the previous parts that is "methods of the establishment of effective cooperation of family and school".
