Whether the students' moral assessment is good or bad plays a key role in the effectiveness of school moral education.The assessment is a task which directs ,diagnoses ,motivates and facilitates the school moral education ,and provides feedback .It sheds light on the gap between results and target so that teachers and students can find and solve problems,in an effort to improve the school moral education , and promote students moral development . Therefore , the purpose of moral assessment is to reflect the students' moral development .If we fail to reach the goal ,the assessment becomes pointless.Since 2004,the Shanghai Education Commission Started to use 《Shanghai Secondary and Primary School Student Development Record》 .It is based on the previous versions, and the experience of assessment in schools from different districts in ShangHai .The target of the 《Shanghai Secondary and Primary School Student Development Record》To aim at further carrying out the Party's educational guiding principles and the spirit of "Several Opinions of the Central Authorities of the Communist Party of China on further Enhancing and Improving the Juveniles' Moral Construction" and paying attention to the juveniles' all-round development.Then ,comes the question of whether the 《Record》 can give timely and accurate account of students' moral development ,and how much credibility can we give to it? To what extent do it help to form and develop the students' morality and in turn enhances the effectiveness of school moral education ? In what way does it need alteration and how can it be altered .The answers to all the above-mentiened questions are to be tested in real practice and research before it can be perfected .Only in this way can the 《Record》 fulfil its aim of moral assessment, promote the students' moral development and enhance the effectiveness of school moral education .This research stduy makes an investigation of seven school (at different levels ) in its implementation of the 《Record》 , including the criteria of assessment , arrangments of contents ,course of implementation and result of assessment. Careful summary and analysis have been made of the first-hand materials .It also analysizes the positive and negative side of the 《Record》 and gives useful and feasible advice in order to enhance the effectiveness of school moral education.
