Art museum is an institution of comprehensive collection ,display, education and research for art and culture. Education in art museum, an indispensable part of morden art museum, connects art works with visitersis as a bridge.As visitors, school children(K-12) are importment participants and objects of museum education. They are future users of art museum as well as inheritors of our culture. Art museums should work together with primary and secondary schools to carry out art museum education. Through attracting more children to visit art museums, art museums and schools can use the resources in the museums to enhance the students' artistic accomplishments, promote the exploitation of multi-intelligence and foster healthy and active mentalities. Hence, how to develop art museum education with schools is a important task for art museum education.There are four sections in this dissertation. In the first section, the author presents a general review of art museums and art museum educaion in theroy. As art museum education is a new field in research, presentation of its main direction and connotation is quite necessary. Hence, in this part, the aouthor mainly discusses the relations between art museums and museum, the definitions and characteristics of art museums, and the history as well as present situations of art museum education in different countries, which will help clarify the general direction and connotation of art museum education.The second section will focus on the relationship between art museums and primary and secondary schools. The author discusses the great significance of art museum education in school children's developing as well as the objects, contents and modes of art museum education designed with schools.In the third section, the author chooses Shanghai to conduct a case study to achieve a further understanding of the situation of the art museums and the schools. By analysing the problems in the cases of art museum education, the author offers suggestions to improve art museum education as well as suggestions for the partenership between art museums and schools. The fourth section contains four cases, two of which are units lessons about museum education used in classroom, and one activity plan targeted at school tour guide as well as a single-sheet design for the activity. And the last one is a improvement project for a family education activity in art museum.The creativity of this dissertation lies in two aspects. In theory, it expands the significance of art museum education in both intellgical and psychological ways on school-children's growing up. In that case, the research may provide some enlightment for further theory studys. In practice, the thesis uses case studies of domestic art museum education and offers corresponding improving plans directed against the existing shortcomings. Especially, the four specific cases are designed in the hope of enlightening today' s domestic art museum education and promote the cooperation of art museums and schools.
