With the prosperous development of sport for all, exercise psychology has become a forward topic in sport psychology research. At present, researches of exercise psychology are mainly conducted on internal motivation, such as exercise attitude and exercise interest, and rarely seen on conformability which is mainly conducted in social psychology as external motivation. Out of concern for the strong sense of conformability of Chinese university students, the present research combines conformability with physical exercise among university students in Shanghai, focusing on the effect of conformability upon the physical exercises among university students in Shanghai with the aim of helping them cultivate lifelong exercise habit.Guided by the Stage of Change model (SOC), the present research adopts literary investigation, questionnaires, data statistics and interviews. Three questionnaires are used in the present research, including exercise attitude questionnaire designed by Mao Rongjian in 2003, exercise stage questionnaire designed by Marcus, B.H. in 1992 and conformability inventory designed by Song Guandong in 2004. The present research is composed of 1058 university students in Shanghai, including 304 students with PE major (209 boys and 95girls) and 754 students with non- PE major (360 boys and 394girls). The present research focuses on the effect of conformability upon the physical exercises among college students in Shanghai. The present research came to following conclusions:1. Different types of conformability transform from each other.2. There is a significant difference in attitude towards physical exercises among college students with different types of conformability.3. Conformability can change one's exercise behavior by changing one's attitude towards physical exercises.4. The higher stage, the fewer students with conformability but the more students with active attitude and great interest are in. Conformability helps students take part in physical exercises while exercise attitude and interest play a key part in their persistence of physical exercises.5. Conformability doesn't have a significant influence on the stage of exercise, while exercise attitude and interest have a very significant influence on the stage of exercise. 6. Obedience coincides intrinsically in passive emotional experience while conformity coincides intrinsically in active emotional experience.7. Students with conformity have stronger determination than those with other types of conformability.8. Tactics for dominance have a significant influence on the emotional experience and self-control of university students. Coercive strategies cause better self-control than prosocial strategies, while the latter cause more active emotional experience than the former. We'd better combine both strategies.
