Music appreciation refers to a pleasant beauty-oriented activity involved in the essence of music by means of experiencing through listening and other aiding, measures. Music appreciation, as one of the major contents of music teaching in middle school, plays an essential role in arousing students' interests, broadening their views, enhancing their ability of experiencing, analyzing, and evaluating music, improving their imagination, enriching their feelings and refining their sentiment. There are 56 ethnic groups in our country, therefore ,ethnic music boasts its variety and unique features. It's our responsibility to carry forward the ethnic music, which not only passes knowledge to the students but also makes them realize its status in the international music field as well as strengthen their national pride. In the meanwhile, to give full scope to the ethnic music will potentially foster students' high morality and enforce the education for patriotism.With the constant development of the basic music education reform, a great achievement has been obtained in middle school music appreciation approach. however, there are still some problems in its system: the relatively backward teaching concept together with the monotonous teaching approach and the shortage of skillfully qualified teachers.Music appreciation course is a very comprehensive subject, which requires teachers with special ability and skills, solid cultural foundation and profound professional knowledge. Based on this we should focus our attention the aesthetic judgment, nationality and locality in order to realize the expected goal of ethnic music appreciation teaching.
