Skeleton system is a fundamental body system. The bone quantity reaches peak value at 30 years old approximately, then it will decrease with age, especially postmenopausal women will get a sharp decline of bone quantity. It is necessary to find a practical exercise method to control the loss of the bone quantity and prevent the risk of osteoporosis. This study researched the relationship between Taijiquan and changes of bone mineral density(BMD), and investigate the physiological mechanism of its effect on bone mineral density of postmenopausal women. In this study, we chose 22 postmenopausal women as our subjects, then they were divided into two groups, Taijiquan group(performed regular Taijiquan exercise for more than one year) and control group(on regular exercise). We analyzed relative parameters of bone mineral density and sex hormone with statistical method. This study used quantitative ultrasound(QUS)bone measure system UBIS5000 to test postmenopausal women's BMD, and measured sex hormone including E2,T,FSH and LH by radioimmunoassay method.Results showed: Taijiquan group had a notably higher level of bone mineral density than control group(P﹤0.05); and more E2 than control group(P﹤0.05), however less T, FSH and LH than control group(P﹤0.05); bone mineral density had a moderate direct correlation with E(2P﹤0.01), a moderate negative correlation with T and LH(P﹤0.01), bone mineral density had a negative correlation with FSH..We believed after analysis by synthesis that Taijiquan is a kind of exercise form that is suitable for quinquagenarian, especially for postmenopausal women. It can help to improve the bone mineral density of exercisers, alleviating the bone loss that is caused by the reduction of estrogen and preventing the risk of osteoporosis effectively.
