Environment Education Practice In A Middle School At Beijing Suburb

The future of our country lies on the shoulders of today' s middle school students. The corner stone to support a sustainable growth of our country is in the education of our students to help them possess necessary qualifications for future works. The awareness of environment protection is one of these qualifications, which can be established through environment education. As we know, a sustainable growth built on top of the environment protection has become the trend of the current world. The consensus is that environment protection should be implemented through education.In this paper, we use "Little Green Guard" organization at Fan-Shan No. 4 middle school as a case study example to discuss the environment education practice in middle schools. The "Little Green Guard" is a grass-root organization that was founded to help students establish the environment protection awareness, cultivate the civic behaviors, and build environment ethics. The objectives of this organization also include the enhancement of student' s hands-on experience, the cultivation of good characters and innovations, and the injection of sustainable growth concept that would lead to students' understanding of the importance of harmony coexistence of the nature, the environment, and the human beings. Speaking of middle school environment education, the importance of "Little Green Guard" organization is in the exploration of a feasible approach to create a desirable school environment, to carry out core characters education, to improve environment awareness, and to promote active participation of environment protection activities among both teachers and students.This paper consists of three parts.
