This study has been done on the basis of literature, investigation, statistics, logical reasoning, etc., oriented toward 64 Fujian regular higher education institutions (hereinafter referred to as "HEI" ) . Based on a thorough investigation and rational analysis on the 24 representative HEI of Fujian, some objective discrimination and in-depth exploration have been made toward the existing problems and causes as well, and accordingly some possible solutions and proposals have been put forward for improving the basketball teaching in Fujian regular HEI. The specific conclusions reached are offered as follows: but for too limited teaching hours, the basket teaching goal set down by Fujian regular HEI is basically in line with the requirements of Guidelines for National Regular HEI Physical Education promulgated by the Ministry of Education, however, 45.8% of the investigated HEI offer only one term (30-36 periods) of basketball teaching, which has prevented the students from cultivating a lifelong P.E. awareness, ability and character; the basketball teachers of Fujian regular HEI are basically sound in the age structure, but low in their educational level, small in the percentage of high-rank professional titles, inadequate in academic research work, and low in the ranks of professional referees, in spite of all this, most students are satisfied with the basketball teaching; the examination content, method, and standard adopted in the basketball teaching of Fujian regular HEI have become unsuitable, but fortunately the teachers have come to realize the significance of assessingstudents' general abilities and the examination are on the way of becoming rationalized; currently the traditional teaching means and methods still dominate the basketball teaching in Fujian regular HEI, and the multimedia teaching is far from mature; most students choose the PE programs out of their own interest with clear objectives, which indicates that they have changed their choice criteria from "up to standard" to their own health needs and that their RE. mind has come to be stabilized; and the basketball facilities equipped by Fujian regular HEI are on average adequate, however, about which as much as 55.3% students still complain. In conclusion, this thesis is aimed at providing some theoretical basis for the competent authority of Fujian regular HEI in their decision-making as well as a source of reference for the basketball teaching practice in Fujian regular HEI.
