The Sinological Research Institute of Cheeloo University is a teaching and research facility, which is established because Cheeloo University participated in the Chinese culture research corporate plan of Harvard—Yenching Institute. It is a representative humanities scholarly research organization in China's Church University at that time. It is established in 1930 fall, and vanished in 1952, because the Cheeloo University is canceled in the country's adjustment of the universities. This article is attempt to inspect systematically about the establishment, development and the cademic operation survey to have a clearer overall assurance about this kind of organization's active characteristics and influence.Cheeloo University is one of church universities which is the Western missionary organized most early in China. It is united established by American, Britain and Canada's Christianity church. 20's later periods, under a series of social movement influence, Cheeloo University used American Hall fund's turning point, participated in the Chinese culture research corporate plan of Harvard — Yenching, established the Sinological Research Institute which is pays equal attention to teaching and research. The Sinological Research Institute's establishment adapted the tendency of the educational circles and the academic circles. Hereafter during 20 remaining years, although the domestic situation is unstable, but it always revolves the Chinese culture research and teaching goal, employs teachers, improves curriculum, enhances the teaching of undergraduate course, raises the Sinological education level, never give up. Simultaneously, it also always pays attention to enhance infrastructures, such as books and antiques collections and so on. Even if under the chaos caused by war condition, the Sinological Research Institute still raised it in every way and obtained many achievements.In the Sinological research aspect, its achievement is also remarkable. As far as the establishment of the Sinological Research Institute's original intention is concerned, the focal point is more tend to research aspect. Just because of the different time's different characteristics and questions, it obtains different achievements. Before Sino-Japanese War eruption, the Sinological Research institute is in Shandong Jinan, their works are mainly concentrate in two aspects ,one of it is inspects the historical site and collect antiques materials, the other is distinguishes falsely checks against the authoritative text and the reorganization of ancient books. This stage emphasizes the foundation found, so has certain distance in the research depth with the domestic correlation academic front. After the Sinological Research Institute moves to Chengdu, gathered many national studies master enter the institute, that large changed its appearance. Compare with preceding stage, this stage is entirely different in research style and component, and obtain achievements in many aspects, such as scholarly research, personnel training and so on. They also edit and publish many academic magazines, such as Cheeloo Quarterly, Tse Shan Bi-weekly, Cheeloo Hsueh Pao, Bulletin of Chinese Studies and so on. All of these not only produced positive influence in the academic circles at that time, but also many achievements still praised until now for the scholars.Of course, Cheeloo University as a small comprehensive university, in many aspects are still limited, such as fund, scale strengths and so on. Additionally, the restriction from Harvard — Yenching Institute and the turmoil situation, has decided its uneven development. Its success and insufficiency, to us today scholarly research, in particular the national studies research and the education all has certain lesson and the enlightenment.
