Stress is one of the dangerous factors to influence mental health. As the medi-mechanism between sterss and health, coping can have the stress' level lower and the mental health better greatly. At present, research on stress and health is mostly focused on that of pupils, middle school students and academicians. But to postgraduates bearing dual-identity with student and adult, studies in point are even less. Studying the postgraduates' stress, coping-styles and their relationship, is not only the practical need of carrying out mental health education, but also the urgent demand of developing deeply research involved. The study procedure is as following: from the theoretic analysis to instrument design, to measure implemention, then to analysis of characters and relationship. Based on the literature analysis and demonstrating survey, it is opened of Postgraduates' Stress Reaction Characters Questionnaire(PSRCQ). Then we investigate the characteristics of postgraduates' stress reaction(PSR) and coping-styles, and review the relationship between PSR and coping-styles. The following are our main research conclutions:1. The study reveals that, the structure of PSR composes of 3 big factors: physiological reaction, psychological reaction and behavioral reaction, also 6 small factors: bad physical reaction, sleep not well, feeble cognitive ability, negative emotional reaction, blenching sociality and not in good learning & activity. The empirical structure model can be conformed to the theoretical constructive model basically.2. PSRCQ has been proven to be of fine validity and reliability through examination, so it can be by way of a tool to evaluate PSR.3. There are significant differences among demological variables in PSR.On the whole, girls' stress reaction is stronger than boys'. In all specialities, the difference shows the following changing trend: liberal arts> science> art> medicine. Grade rising, the degree of PSR is increaced evidently. Graduates from suburb feel more psychological stress than the individuals from village or urban. The better domestic economy postgraduates hold, the slighter their stress reaction is. The stress symptom of married postgraduates is even more serious than that of the lone.4. Postgradutes' stress coping is active in common. They mainly adopt positive coping-styles such as solving-problem and seeking-help. But there are relative significant differences on gender, speciality, grade, etal. .Boys prefer to solve problems, yet girls have more seeking-help. The strategy of solving-problems are exercised by Science postgradutes, rather than art ones. Liberal arts postgraduates usually use multifarious coping-styles, as well as medicine ones. However, the self-condemn liability of the former is obvious remarkedly. Postgraduates of Grade 3 are prone to fantacy, but Grade 1 rationalization. Compared with ones from village or urban, postgraduates from suburb are less likely to solve problem. Individuals with affiunent domestic economy can cope the stress situation more initiatively. When getting into trouble, married postgraduates tend to self-condemn more.5. There is close relationship between postgradutes' stress reaction and coping-styles. All factors of coping-style can forecast the symptom of PSR perfectly. The negative coping strategies will aggravate PSR in most degree, for instance, self-condemn, fantasy, withdrawl and rationalization. By contrast, solving-problem and seeking-help can alleviate their psychological stress. Just the effect of seeking-help are less significant than solving-problem.
