Research On The Relationships Among College Counselors' Work Stress, Coping Style And Mental Health In Hunan Province

With globalization and the advent of the information age, the society has a growing need for high-quality personnel,and the overall quality of mental quality is the most basic core of the overall quality.College counselors,as the first line of students of higher education workers,a more direct impact on college students.Most of the previous studies are focus on the mental health of university teachers.Therefore,this study examined the work pressure, coping style and mental health conditions of the college counselors in Hunan Province, and the relationships among these,thus provide a practical reference for helping them to improve the quality of life,and also to provide practical basis for the education and management.This study randomly selected 16 universities'colleges counselors in Hunan Province,using work stress questionnaire, coping styles questionnaire and SCL-90 to examine college counselor's psychological state. A total of 400 questionnaires issued,365 valid questionnaires.The results showed that(1) There was no significant difference between the counselor colleges'overall mental health and the norm in Hunan Province, and the physical and interpersonal aspects were significantly better than the general population.(2)The working pressure of college counselors in Hunan Province in general is not serious,in which the lightest pressure on the interpersonal relationships,the relatively higher pressure on the workload and the work fun aspects; pressure in all the various dimensions were significantly different among the demographic variables.(3)Most college counselors'coping styles were mature and less were immature coping styles;and coping style had significant differences in sex, age and school type.(4) The stress of the job security, teaching security, relationships and workload on individual could predict the self-blame coping styles to certain extent;job security, teaching security and relationships stress could predict the fancy coping styles to some extent;job security, relationships and workload stress could predict the retreat coping styles to a certain extent.(5)To some extent, Job security, interpersonal relations and workload pressure on the mental health has some predict;self-blame and fantasy coping style of individual could predict mental health. It provides a reference for improving college counselors'mental health. On one side, schools should establish a good and effective management system, effectively improve the job security of College Counselors;and create a liberal human environment, care for the lives of college counselors and psychological needs,appropriately reduce the workload of College Counselors. On the other side, as a mainstay of the college education, counselors should raise their pressure adjustment capability, and promote mature problem-solving coping style;withal,they should enhance self-efficacy and mental endurance capabilities with a clear knowledge of their own roles.
