The Caring Theory was put forward by Pro. Nel Noddings, who came from Columbia University in U.S.,in the 1970s to 1980s. She applied the caring ethics to moral education and proposed the educational reform whose theme is "how to educate students to learn to care". Her caring ethics emphasize on the holistic moral education, individual differences and the effect of teacher-student relationship on the cultivation of students' caring consciousness and ability; furthermore she has shaped her caring-oriented education pattern which includes the purpose of educating caring-capable and beloved people; the courses of caring-oriented; the basic accesses, namely, modeling, dialogue, practice and confirmation. Noddings's caring moral education theory protrudes the characters of respecting for each student's life; the emphasis on students' feeling and experiencing; the highlighting of teachers' function as caring models, the establishing and remaining of caring relationships and the insistence in practicing.This research is mainly conducted under the methods of document study and content analyses. According to the Maxim's theories and views, and with the study of the caring thoughts in ancient China and modern China, the research analyses the values and also points out the deficiencies of Noddings's caring theory for the reform of the contemporary moral education in universities of China. Then it checks the caring absence in the moral education in universities of China and applies the valuable thoughts from the Noddings caring theory to propose some practical reforming advices. On this issue, the research aims at influencing the reform of the contemporary moral education in universities of China theoretically and practically.It is divided into six parts:Preface: the meaning of the research; the present research summery and the methods of the research; the conception of the key words and the background of the main question of this research.The first part is mainly about the question proposed. The question is the lack of caring in the moral education in universities of China. It develops from three aspects: the goal, the course and the daily work of the moral education in universities of China.The second part is about the introduction of Nel Noddings's caring theory. It consists the ethical analysis of "caring"; the background of caring theory; the main ideas, the methods and the characters of caring theory.The third part is about the analysis of caring theory. With the study of the caring thoughts in ancient China and modern China, the research analyses the values of caring theory to the reform of the contemporary moral education in universities of China. This is to ground the next revelation part.The fourth part is the revelation part. It develops from revelations in three aspects: the goal system; course system and daily work system of moral education in universities of China.The end: summarizing the whole paper and pointing out the deficiencies of the caring theory's application of China and the aspects needed to be further researched.
