Some new changes have occurred in the new curriculum as the curriculum reformation for basic education is being carried out and promoted smoothly, Chinese electives characterized as diversity and individuality has become the spotlight in this field. While some benefits begin to loom with the implementation of the reformation, some problems have also come along, which call for further discussion and research. How to carry out the electives in school thus has become the focus of attention. This thesis is attempting to put forward some strategies for the development and implementation of the Chinese elective courses, through surveying the actuality of 9 general senior Middle Schools across Hunan Province. They are also based on the analysis of some resisting factors for the implementation of the elective courses. The thesis consists of three parts:Part one: Introduction and summary of bibliography concerned. This part deals with the background,actuality, purpose, content and significance of the research.Part two: Survey and analysis of the actuality of the Chinese electives in general senior middle schools. This parts deals with the survey of implementation of the electives, staff teachers, content and forms of the curriculum, evaluation and tendency for the elective courses. It also analyses six resisting factors (textbooks, fund, Entrance Examination for universities, teacher resources, idea) and bring forward strategies for carrying out the elective courses.Part three: Reflection of the countermeasures regarding Chinese electives for general senior Middle Schools. This part puts forward some suggestions and implementation of the current Chinese electives regarding the following aspects: model content, teaching strategies, evaluation system, curriculum system, scheme for the Entrance Examination for universities.
