Reference books refer to a particular type of books used as tool in learning and work.We have a study to search how to use reference books of students and use what kind of reference books and the puzzle in using reference books.On the base of self-learning and constructivism learning theory, with the combination of Chinese learning basic disciplines of junior high schools students, the author investigated teachers, students and students’ parents of 5 junior high schools in Yantai City by observation, questionnaires, interviews. After that, the author got the following information about its using actuality of junior high schools students in Yantai City: Firstly, a large number of them realize the importance of reference books in Chinese learning. Secondly, most of them are capable of using Chinese reference books. Lastly, the reference books provided for them are tend to diversify. By analyzing the survey data, it is found that there are still some problems during using reference books. For example, although most students are capable of using the Chinese reference books, still far from comprehensive. However, most of them know little about Chinese reference books, and has only a single type of Chinese reference books. Then, in the Chinese classroom, they are excessive dependent on Chinese teaching material without proactive thinking. At last, the using of reference books still in a narrow range, mostly in terms of looking up new word and its interpretation, and only fewer of them will sort the data after used reference books.In view of this, by consulted literature and combined with junior high schools students physiological and psychological characteristics, the author puts forward countermeasures to promoting the use of Chinese reference books of junior high school students from the following 5 aspects: The first one is teachers should help students develop good habits of using the Chinese reference books. The second one is to guide students to use various reference books. The third one is to expand the use scope of reference books for junior high school students. The fourth one is to establish "reference books record wall, record books". The last one is to open the school-based curriculum of " the usage of Chinese reference books". Hoping to promote the reform of Chinese curriculum of junior high school, the optimization of Chinese class teaching,and the stimulation of well-rounded development of junior high school students.
