Australia Competence-Based TAFE Curriculum

Technical and Further Education(TAFE) plays an important role in Australia vocational education and training, and the history of its development Dates back to the late 1800's. In 1973, Australia Federal government reformed it's traditional vocational education system, after that the Committee of Technical and Further Education has been established. In addition, the Australia government has sep up a new vocational education and training system with integration of Technical and Further Education, and degree and On-the-job training .During late 1980's and early 1990's, the government implemented the Competence Based Training.After more than 30 years of development, Australia has formed distinctively characteristic relatively perfect vocational education and training system. Now, the experts from the world have reached the same agreement on its prominent characteristics that is: emphasis on the predominant role of industry; the establishment of the state-set professional qualifications; curriculum development based on Training package; highly-qualified teaching staff; enterprise-and-marked oriented curriculum setting, and so on. The successful experience of Australia TAFE can benefit us from many ways. In this thesis, I take the curriculum development and setting of Australia TAFE as a breakthrough point to analyze the present condition of TAFE curriculum development and setting. In order to better present the study of TAFE curriculum, I take the TAFE curriculum setting of some states as the example, and compare it with the curriculum development and setting of our higher vocational education to get the enlightenment for our country's higher vocational education reform.
