In the history of two thousand years ancient Chinese education, Mohist 's educational thought was neglected for a long time , compared with the Confucian educational thought which 's always been the "orthodox" status. In contemporary diversified era which emphasizes the development of technology, Mohist's educational thought can give us useful reference and enlightenment in contemporary education. It also focuses on natural science knowledge and productive labor skills. This article tries to appear the characteristics of his education through the specific historical context and comprehensively contrasting platform. From that, it reflects contemporary education, especially the education of Chinese and then make some constructive suggestions for the contemporary education which has many problems.This article has three parts:The fist part finishes the characteristics of "pragmatism"in a system from educational views, educational purposes, teaching content ,teaching methods and principles .And then ,it explains the declined reasons of Mohist's educational thought from external factors and internal factors .The external factors contain the "domination of Confucianism" and social reality . The internal factors contains Utopian, "serious suffering" and pay attention to content and so on. The fist part points out that Mohist's educational thought has not really been extinct school. In the history of Chinese ancient education ,there are some sporadic response. For example , WangAnshi advocated "practical effects", so did YanYuan .The second part mainly constructs of a platform for comprehensive contrast. Contrasting from longitudinal aspect, it contrasts Mohist's and Confucius 'educational thought . They exist obvious differences on the thinking basics and educational characteristics, specially on "pragmatism" and"officials governance".Contrasting from the transverse aspect, it contrasts Mohist's educational thought with the educational thought of ancient Greece . The view of this artic is that they have some common grounds. They both emphasize natural science knowledge, practice and ability to developing logical thought.The third part focuses on the reference and reflection of contemporary education. It reflects the program of educational purpose , developing direction of education and the examine system . And then , the author analyses the positive factors of Mohist's educational thought which have practical significance. The author gives constructive suggestions from the investment of education , the ability to developing logical thought, e emphasis of science and human culture , the unity of knowledge learning and practice , the balanced development of the higher education and the occupational education five aspects. The author tries to give some useful reference for the reform of contemporary education.
