Concerning with the certain problems of classroom mathematics teaching in elementary education nowadays, and combing with the reform of elementary educational curriculum, the author comes up with the present research and practice of activities teaching based on Dewey's educational theory learning-by-doing.In the first part the present thesis delimits the definition of mathematics activities, discusses their category, analyses their function and indicates the interests and extensive participation are the main characteristics of mathematics activities. Therefore the activities can arouse the interests and enthusiasm of students to learn mathematics, put the abstract mathematics knowledge and principle into practical use so that mew experiences will be generated through communication and cooperation of students.In the second part it plays focus on materials of lower grades of elementary education and selecting criteria of contents(i.e. activities should be fit in with the regular patterns of the students'knowing); The activities should offer the students challenges; The scientific choice of the mathematics activities should be shown; The subject matter of the activities should have the quality of the games. And it analyzes the choice of the subject matter of the mathematics activities with the case WALK AROUD THE WORLD WITH OUR LITTLE FEET------the rules of addition and subtraction within 100.In the third part, it studies the principle and method of mathematics activities in teaching design(i.e. the main function of the students and the participation of most students should be shown during the activities; The activities teaching in mathematics should help the students to discover something actively; The activities teaching should show the open. And it contrasts and analyzes the teaching design of the mathematics activities with the case A GAME OF TOUCHING THE BALL----POSSIBILITY.In the fourth part, it studies how to put the plays into practice during the teaching, (i.e. mathematics activities teaching practice, i.e. how to avoid the formality of the activities teaching.); The methods of the activities should be a variety . The difficulty of the activities should be moderate; The rules of the activities should be fare and simple; The course and results of the activities should be taken into account; The factor of the students'actual strength and favorable circumstances should be taken into account at the same time. It gives the demonstration to the addition within 10 with the case BLACK AND WHITE CHESS.In the fifth part, it points out some problems in mathematics activities teaching, e.g. the activities lapse from the teaching matter, the styles of the activities are too old and too simple, sometimes they lessen originality and thoughts, the arrangement of the activities is confused, the activities have a big quantity and a poor quality. And what method should be adopted in order to avoid these problems and sum up certain rules of lower grades of elementary education.Through analysis, the author believes that it has great help to alter students'learning style and their ideas on study by introducing mathematics activities into classroom. The author also finds that mathematics activities can well arouse students'learning interests, strengthen students'learning motivation, give students favorable feeling and experience in communication, bring up good learning attitude, and effectively improve the current situation of the talk between a teacher and a student and the talk between two students.
