With the development of higher vocational education, Chinese professionaleducationalists begin to study the cultivation of diverse technical talent and in facthave put some thoughts and ideas into practice. However, these litters and fragments ofthoughts are not systematical and seem to be a little bit empirical, especially, they cannot answer such urgent questions (which in fact is the result of not enough research) as,"what are so-called diverse technical talent", "are the higher vocational collegescapable of training such kind of talent?", "what experience have we acquired and whatare our weak points or disadvantages?" and "how can we effectively train thedemanding talent?" Hence, the article devotes to systematical expounding of them.First, the article presents the necessity of higher vocational training with thethoughts based on the social background, i.e., the increasing demand for diversetechnical personnel. The author holds the proper training is of great value to enrich thetheoretical system of vocational education and to guide its practice.Second, the author presents her definitions of "special talent" and "diversetechnical talent." She expounds the foundation of training the two kinds of talents andshe thinks that it is necessary to include the training of diverse technial talent in thehigher professional training system.Third, the author presents the training practice of Hunan Vocational Institute ofSafety&Technology.She holds that this major has made progress in many aspectssuch as: emphasizing marketing investigation, the flexibility of training goals, whichare worth emulating. The weak points as unclear focus of employment are discussedhere, deserve our consideration.At last, the author believes that the main means of effectively training proficient diverse technical personnel is to strengthen and improve the proper specialties, whichcan be resolved from the following four aspects: orientation of training goals; theformulation of training system; the development of training-support conditions; and thevaluation system of specialties' building.
