Predicament And Solutions Of Education In Institutionalized Society

We live in an institutionalized society, to be institution- alized is one of the most important characteristics in our society. Institution is like this——in which we live, but we can't perceive it. However, it really exists. Whether recognized or not, institution has been influencing the world's history and every aspect of our lives, including the educational system. To be institutionalized brings about a lot of convenience for us, but makes our education deep in a predicament. This thesis uses the methods of hermeneutics, phenomenology and institution analysis to inquire into the educational predicament and its solutions.This article is divided into three chapters.In chapter one, it explains the concepts and essential theory of institution, then introduces the engendering, development and main characteristics of institutionalized education. Finally, it analyses the rationality and limitations of educational system, according to the dialectical of Marxism. Institutionalized education can decrease the cost of educational transaction and promote educational justice. However, it is indifferent to lives and it depreciates individual character.In chapter two, it critically explains the predicament in the institutionalized society. It begins with the secret of discipline and control. As a major part, it introduces the four kinds of means, including unified standard, strict discipline, norm tests, encouragement and punishment. It's out of question that discipline and control brings about a series of consequence, resulting in the lost of school' autonomy, teacher's teaching wisdom and student's creativity. So we can't help questioning where our freedom is.In chapter three, it attempts to find some solutions to the institutionalized education. Since the extant educational system can't protect our freedom, but cause mandatory and control, we need to innovate it by drawing up educational system which can be run and chosen by the public, enlarging school's autonomy and making some limited market-oriented reforms, to get school education out of the woods.
