In recent years, the higher education in China enjoys rapiddevelopment. However, a serious problem of it hasn't beeneffectively dealt with and has risen to be a socially hot spotscrutinized by the public. That is the problem of inequalityin higher education. Among many aspects of it, this thesistakes college admission as the starting point. By applyingtheories of pedagogy, sociology and the political philosophy,the problem of inequality in higher education is studied.Further, solutions to the problem are proposed at the end ofthis thesis. Based on the sketch mentioned above, the thesisis divided into four parts:The first part briefly introduces the macro background andmakes a brief yet comprehensive summary of related researcheson this issue in China as well as abroad. In addition, researchsignificance, research aim and methodology are all introducedin this part.The second part puts focus on analyzing a series ofconcepts, such as equality, equality of opportunity, equalityin education, equality in higher education, etc. Analysisleads to the conclusion that opened prospects for talents isthe core of these concepts. Further, this part points out theessential role higher education plays in social equality.The third part is the main part of this thesis. In thispart, the research will be carried on in the following aspects:analysis on the relations among academic scores, tuition andequality in college admission; pointing out that inequality in college admission is the main reason why people are notsatisfied with higher education; survey on various elementsleading to inequality in college entrance admission, includingthe difference among administrative areas, the differencebetween rural areas and urban cities and the difference amongfamilies. Through such analysis and surveys, a general andcomprehensive study can be achieved on the present situationof equality in college admission.Based on analysis, the fourth part puts forward solutions,which includes: First, to set up a right concept about equalityin higher education and to avoid being trapped inequality-nihilism; Second, to spare no efforts to bettereducation system, which can ultimately guarantee rights ofstudents as well as colleges.
