This paper takes the teachers for school mental health education as research object,uses literature review, questionnaires, behavior event interview and other psychologyresearch techniques to construct the mental health education teacher competencybehavioral questionnaire and then assess the level of the teachers for school mental healtheducation competency. Therefore, it proposes the way to improve the teachers of schoolmental health education competency.At first, teachers for school mental health education are asked to do some open-endedquestionnaires and do the behavior event interviews in order to know the excellentteachers' behavior performance regarding to their traits and skills. Then it discriminatesthe characteristics differences between the excellent and ordinary teachers throughInvestigating 153 teachers. Further more, it carries out factor analysis to explore thecompetent intrinsic constitution of the teachers. The result indicates that the competencytraits of all the teachers contains six aspects as following: effective teaching andcounseling ability, professional personality, research and instruction ability, workingcharacter, sincerely concerning for the students, seeking individual development ability.The paper also assessed the level of teachers' competency by using "The self-ratingquestionnaire for the competency of teachers for mental health education". The resultindicates that the current competency levels of the teachers are in medium level. Thecompetency among the teachers with varied working year demonstrates significantdifference; teachers with variation in educational background, full-time vs part-time andtraining claims significant difference in some dimensions in the competency survry; andno significant difference is found among the teachers with differenciation regarding togender, age, types of school and shool location. The article finally searches the way andthe concrete strategy to strengthen the competency of the teachers for school mentalhealth education.
