The purpose of this dissertation is to explore the competency model of mental health teachers, to construct the mental health teacher's competency questionnaire and assess the level of mental health teacher's competency. Based on literature analysis and beginning exploring from behaviors, qualitative methods such as behavior event interview, thematic analysis, and transcript content analysis combining with quantitative methods are used in this study. The main conclusions are as follows:(1)The competency models of mental health teacher include: interpersonal understanding and communication, respect for pupils, pupil service orientation, self-control, self-confidence, achievement orientation, influence, student-developing improvement, organization and management, expertise, analytical thinking, and critical thinking. According to the competency's classification of Spencer, the competency models of mental health teacher can be divided into 4 factors: assist, person effect, management, expertise.(2)In this study,"the survey of mental health teacher's competency"is edited, which contains 4 sub-scales, 30 items in all. These sub-scales are assist, person effect, management, and expertise respectively. The coefficient of homogeneity is 0.919, and the coefficient of half-split is 0.728. The validity and reliability of the survey accord with the psychometric criterion on the whole. It can be used to test competency idiosyncrasy of mental health teacher.(3)The competency idiosyncrasy of mental health teacher is further validated by validation factor analyzing.(4)In this study, the developmental level of competency idiosyncrasy of mental health teachers in Chongqing are tested by"the survey of mental health teacher's competency", the result shows that their levels are in average. There is no difference on gender and on school'sort.The conclusions from this study can be used for reference on inviting applications for mental health teacher, arranging and evaluating to mental heath teacher, and making criterion of competency idiosyncrasy and qualification. The conclusions from this study are very useful to further research of mental health teacher's specialty development.
