In 2001, the Decision on Reformation and Development of Fundamental Education issued by the State Council of PRC orients the course reformation of the fundamental education. The"energizing the theory of inquiry learning"was put forward by the eighth course innovation movement, which widely boosts the reform fundamental education in China. The new course reformation will be implemented in Inner Mongolia in 2008. As the responsible teachers, we should adapt ourselves to the new situation.After the theory of new course standard studied thoroughly through the educating practice, I found it is a effective means to promote the accomplishment of students that oriented by the new course theory, explored the compulsory unites of the new book, employed the subject knowledge and scientific ways, practiced the inquiry studying in biological teaching in Senior high school.In this paper, the definition, study background and characteristics of inquiry teaching were analyzed. The strategies to improve inquiring teaching were brought forward through the practice in biology teaching of Senior High school. It should be followed as:1)to pay attention to observation and experimentation, strengthen foundation teaching,2)to attach importance to hypothesis and to culture the logic thinking ability,3)to pay attention to build module and to culture the synthesis analysis ability, 4)to attach to collect information and analysis, and to culture the ability of compile information and deal with it,5)to attach to education of science history, and to culture the attitude of science,6)to create the atmosphere of democracy harmonious in discussion in order to gain science method,7)to pay much attention to estimation, and to attempt to adapt the new pattern estimation method of inquiring teaching.It is a challenge for biology teachers of Senior High school to put exploring and research teaching in practice guided with the new course standard. Opportunity companied with challenge, it is a question for every teacher to think deeply how to face with the opportunity and challenge.
