Since the beginning of reform and opening to the Outside World of China in late 1970s, English has been viewed as the key foreign language to economic and scientific development. As a main inputting way in language learning, Reading shares an important place among listening, speaking, reading and writing. This is because reading is the basic way for people to obtain information and to learn. Furthermore, In language tests inside or outside China, reading comprehension takes a high proportion. This indicates reading ability is a means to check the learners' language level. But it is a pity that the phenomenon of 'high input, low output' in reading teaching is general. Many learners have difficulties to read English magazines and English letters after learned for years at school. What is the reason? I think, One is reading concept, the other is the learners cannot grasp and use the proper reading strategies. This research is on the students of Secondary Special School. It aims to investigate whether the reading strategy could be used in English teaching and whether the students could benefit from this reading strategy training. In the experiment, subjects are two classes in my school. Each class has twenty students. One class is experimental group, the other is control group. They all received the same language course in four months. The experimental group participated in strategy training while the control group with no strategy training. Both groups had a test and filled out a questionnaire before the experiment. After the experiment finished, they did the same work. The results of research speak in favor of the strategy training. It is consistent with the initial hypothesis. If teachers systematically introduce and reinforce strategies that can help students read more effectively, the students may improve their reading abilityThe experiment provided an effective way to improve the students' reading ability. Secondary Special School English teachers may find the results of this thesis beneficial.
