Foreign language study is closely associated with vocabulary study. Through researches scholars are finding that lexical problems frequently interfere with communication. And the second language learners generally hold the view that it is vocabulary, rather than grammar that hinders them from communicating with others in the target language, with the reason that vocabulary carries the basic information they need to understand and express. it is generally viewed that learning English vocabulary makes great contribution to the improvement of English study. acquisition of the vocabulary easily wipes off the biggest obstacle in listening, speaking, reading and writing, which all depend on vocabulary largely. However, both learners and teachers have ignored vocabulary study for a long time, which results in slow progress in English learning. So the great importance of vocabulary in English study is pointed out, but vocabulary can't be learnt by rote. In order to solve the problem of"time-consuming and poorly-efficient"English vocabulary learning, the author argues that it is necessary to train the students to master some vocabulary learning strategies.The thesis can be divided into five parts largely. The first part is the introduction, which first depicts the current situation of vocabulary teaching and learning in Senior Middle School in China .Based on the investigation conducted before the experiment on the Senior Middle School student's difficulties in vocabulary learning was presented. It is discovered the obstacle hindering the student's progress in vocabulary learning is that the students are poor in vocabulary learning and memorizing strategies, which result in their anxiety about vocabulary learning. Therefore, it is necessary for teacher to train the students to master some vocabulary learning strategies. In the second part, the author elaborates the studies on vocabulary learning strategies at home and abroad, as well as the definition of vocabulary learning strategy and its classification and why are vocabulary-learning strategies important. The third part is the experiment on the training of vocabulary learning strategies. The purpose of the experiment is to train the students in daily learning to master and use the vocabulary learning strategies so as to improve their efficiency of vocabulary learning, to master more vocabulary while spending less time and to extend their vocabulary size. The subjects of the experiment are 145 students in Senior One class. One is an experimental class, and the other is a comparative class. The hypothesis is that training the student to master some vocabulary learning strategies can improve the students'efficiency of vocabulary learning and improve their vocabulary size greatly. The experiment lasted on semester .Tests and questionnaires were used as research instruments. During the stage the author make use of the training model of vocabulary learning strategy in class to train the students to master strategies for learning new vocabulary by themselves, for memorizing the vocabulary validly and effective and for guessing the meaning of the unknown words in context and by means of test, check the result of experiment. A conclusion was drawn based on the finding from the experiment that is by training the students to maser some vocabulary learning strategies students'vocabulary learning is improved and the interest of the students in vocabulary learning is inspired.
