It is the requirement of the construction of the new socialist countryside to build the learning-oriented countryside. Building the learning-oriented countryside means to construct a whole and perfect education system and protect all the rural residents' rights of learning. It is designed to achieve the goal of developing economy by promoting the whole qualities of the population in rural areas. Due to the low cultural levels of the peasants and the worse educational conditions of rural communities, building the learning-oriented countryside it is more different from building learning-oriented cities.There is a mutual winning and interactive developing relationship between building the learning-oriented countryside and the higher agricultural universities. On the one hand, building the learning-oriented countryside needs the manpower, material resources and intellectual support of the latter. On the other hand, the higher agricultural universities' participation in building the learning-oriented countryside would provide a new platform for its reform and development. It is of great theoretical and realistic importance to study the higher agricultural universities' position in building the learning-oriented countryside.Building the learning-oriented countryside is the objective requirement of the construction of the new socialist countryside, and also the key to the problems of"Agriculture, Countryside, and Peasants". But it is impossible for the peasants to build the learning-oriented countryside themselves, which has to depend on the help from the outside. The higher agricultural universities are the axis organizations of building the learning-oriented countryside. They are the service stations of the rural economic development, the power station and the organizers of building the learning-oriented countryside. The author has discovered through the analyzing method of SWOTs that both advantages and disadvantages exist in the higher agricultural universities' participation in building the learning-oriented countryside. It is crucial for them how to catch the opportunity of building the learning-oriented countryside, face the challenge, make use of the advantages of their majors and talents, and take part in that construction actively with the reform of themselves.Building the learning-oriented countryside has brought new challenges for the existing systems of higher agricultural universities, which concentrates on the inadaptability of the existing teaching model, curriculum system and major set-up towards the needs of building the learning-oriented countryside. So the higher agricultural universities should transform their school-running ideas in time, run the universities with multiple levels, and teach the students with pluralistic teaching models to adapt to the various learning needs of the learning-oriented countryside.The concrete model of the higher agricultural universities' participation in building the learning-oriented countryside is pluralistic. Each higher agricultural university has experienced a lot and has invented various valuable models in practice, in which the"Shuangbai Project"of Hunan Agricultural University is a model of direct participation that deserves being used for reference and being spread.
