In order to improve the teaching quality thoroughly, the National Ministry of Education started the"College Teaching Quality and Teaching Reform Project"in 2003. The construction of elaborate course is an important component part of this quality project. This program was planning to build 1500 elaborate courses from 2003 to 2007. Every higher vocational college had an actively response to it and made great progress. Until now, 242 courses have been regarded as elaborate courses in the Vocational Colleges. However, only if the construction of course satisfies the standards which the elaborate course requires, the course could be regarded as the"Elaborate Course". Furthermore, the course will be a sample for the construction of other courses. Therefore, the construction of elaborate course in higher vocational college needs to advance with times, improve and perfect persistently.This article investigated the hot spot of how to construct the elaborate course in higher vocational colleges. In the first part, the author delimited the elaborate course in higher vocational colleges. And then, this paper elaborated on the construction of elaborate course in higher vocational colleges from three parts: why the elaborate course was constructed in higher vocational colleges, as to say the relation between the elaborate course and the curriculum construction, the ideal of the elaborate course in higher vocational colleges, the goal of the elaborate course in higher vocational colleges, the contents, characteristic and function of the elaborate course in higher vocational colleges; what were the problems of constructing the elaborate course? By statistical analysis, the author found them. The third part, what should be done to construct the elaborate course in the higher vocational colleges? It means the countermeasures of constructing the elaborate course. The countermeasures were to set up a"Double Title"teaching staff, to use the advanced teaching methods and instruction, to form scientific management systems, to compile module teaching content and three-dimensional teaching material. What's more, it was needed to explore its characteristics in the construction of elaborate course in higher vocational colleges and to study the theories of elaborate course so as to make sure the curriculum construction is carried on continually in higher vocational colleges.
