| The problems about learning disabilities for middle school students have attracted close attention in the field of education and psychology all of the world. It is estimated that about 10% students engaged in middle or primary schools, in China, have disabilities in their learning. To solve these problems has become more important than ever before. This thesis is a test, making use of two questionnaires, one of which is Self Description Questionnaire II written by Marsh and revised by Chen Guo-peng and the other is Defense Style Questionnaire written by Bond revised by Lu Dun-yue.In this test, 133 students are studied, and all of them are from a middle school in Wuhan, studying throughout Grade one to Grade three. 59 of them have failed their studies and the rest 74 done well. The methods employed in the ResearchThere are totally three methods here. The first one is the comparison of self-concept and defendsive styles between good students and the ones with disability. The second is the exploration of self-concept of middle school students, the characteristics of their defendsive styles, and the relationship between self-concept and defendsive styles. The results1. To middle school students, the self-concept generally develops in balance; there is no difference among ages, and a little between sex.2. The students with poor academic performance lacks behind the ones with good performance in learning-self-concept, non-learning-self-concept and self-control.3. There are three defendsive styles, mature, immature and the middle counterpart of the two, and Middle school students prefer the mature defendsive style. These three defendsive styles have the following characteristics:(1) Mature and the middle defendsive styles have nothing to do with sex distinctioncompared with the immature one which has a strong tie with sex.(2) Mature and the middle defendsive styles show nothing relating to the ages.(3) The immature defendsive style is highly corresponding to ages, that is to means, the students, in Grade One, have less ability to do self-defense than those in Grade Two or Three. This may have something to do with the degree of the students glossing over their behaviors.4. The defendsive style between bad students and good ones is very different. The badstudents prefer to use the immature and middle styles to do their defense compared with the good favoring mature ones.5. For middle school students, the self-concept has a positive correlation with the mature defendsive style and negative correlation with immature defendsive style. |
