Stimulating the achievement motivation is the focus of attention in the field of education. Individual's achievement motivation is always influenced by internal and external factors. Among these factors, social support is a negligible problem. With the continuing concern about development of college student by the government and society, more and more scholars gradually begin to put emphasis on the effect of social support in education. Studying of the relationship between social support and education can make us adopt different stimulating ways for different students, and consequently make every student spend four years in college smoothly and successfully.Based on the study of achievement motivation and social support, this paper investigates the present situation about achievement motivation and social support of junior college students, taking these students of finance and economics specialties as the samples, applying the achievement motivation questionnaire and the social support questionnaire and using t-test, analysis of variance and analysis of correlation. The purpose of this paper is to study the relationship between achievement motivation and social support and explore whether social support arouse student's motivation, how different sources of social support affect student's motivation and what expectations of social support they have in the process of arousing achievement motivation.According to the research, this paper draws following conclusions: 1) there exists an obvious difference among different students in different gender, grade, area and family background and a clear positive relation between achievement motivation and father's level of education. But there is no definite difference on family variables and doesn't exist a clear positive relation between achievement motivation and mother's level of education; 2) there exists an obvious grade difference on the latitude of utilization of social support, but there doesn't exist differences on other aspects; 3) there exists an obvious positive relation between achievement motivation and social support. Objective support and level of utilization have a positive correlation with the motive of expecting success, and a negative correlation with the motive of avoiding failure. Subjective support has an obvious an obvious positive correlation with the motive of expecting success but has no obvious relation with the motive of avoiding failure and achievement motivation. On the whole, strong social support has the significant effect on the cultivation of achievement motivation.
