The Enlightenment Of Mencius' Education Theory To Contemporary University Students' Quality Education

Mencius is a Confucian Masters after Confucius. He is a thinker, politician and educator in the Warring States Period. Many of Mencius' theory turned into the field of education. Studying Mencius' theory on the education, we can understand the impact of Mencius' theory to China's development and it can provide useful ideological resources for building a modern society's moral. The theory has a great revelatory effect to the contemporary university students' quality education.In this dissertation, we discuss the historical background and the theoretical basis of Mencius' education theory. Mencius' theory was born in the Warring States period. At that time, the political environment was unstable, the economic and cultural were comparatively prosperity. The theoretical basis of Mencius' education theory is his thought on human nature "theory of good-nature". In Mencius' idea, the distinction between human and animal is "know ethic or do not " and everyonehas four good-nature side—compassion, shame , courtliness and judgement.Mercy, loyalty, courtesy and wisdom are good-nature sides' appearance. There is an important point in Mencius' teaching theory that everyone can be Yao and Shun.The important content of Mencius' teaching theory include: the value ofeducation; the purpose and role of education; the idea of teaching methods andother ideas in education.The emphasis in this dissertation is the enlightenment we can get from Mencius' teaching theory to improve our contemporary university students' quality education. The enlightenment is explained from four sides: enlightenment from the value of education; enlightenment from the purpose and role of education; enlightenment from the idea of teaching methods and enlightenment from other ideas in education.
