In close connection with the author's teaching experience the thesis made a relatively profound research in the significance of the cultivation of students' innovative thinking ability and how to put the idea into practice. The thesis pointed out that innovative education is the mainstream of 21st century, and innovative thinking is the key to cultivate innovative personals. The discipline of history had its own particular advantage in cultivating the students' innovative thinking ability, and no other subjects could match it in this way. The thesis analyzed the requirements concerning the cultivation of students' innovative thinking ability in the teaching criteria of history discipline both of our country and some other countries, then made a statistic study of the history examination papers for college entrance purpose of some provinces and cities in the latest five years, finally a conclusion could be drawn that history education in 21st century should focus on the connection between history and reality, study and development, learning history as a course and for social needs, for which purpose the development of innovative thinking should be given priority.Through analysis of some teaching case stories the thesis illustrated different styles of teaching designs from many different aspects and explored some teaching methods that were beneficial to the cultivation of the students' innovative thinking ability. It was proposed that among the elements to cultivate the students' innovative thinking ability effective questioning should be the prerequisite; the students' experience the motivation; plentiful historical data the basis, and clear expression the basic requirements. The thesis also carried out a concrete analysis of every teaching strategy.The author made some practical exploration in how to cultivate the students' innovative thinking ability in history teaching. Experimental teaching was conducted in her class, scientific examination and evaluation were done on the results from the experiments; then a careful analysis was made to the problems that could be confronted in the teaching and the findings from the teaching. Upon this basis the author stated her reflection on her experiment teaching experience, and her efforts to the reform of high school history teaching.Research of innovative thinking ability in history teaching is a brand new subject. The thesis has conducted a detailed and accurate argumentation and elaboration how to develop the students' innovative thinking in high school history teaching both in theory and practice, in an abstract sense and a concrete sense. The intention of this study is to explore the feasibility of cultivating the students' innovative thinking in history teaching practice, to overcome the contradictions between the traditional teaching models and the development of the students' innovative thinking ability, and to avoid the various problems resulted from experimental teaching and to offer beneficial experience and reference in future teaching practice.
