Teaching staff's building is the eternal topic of high education institutions' reform and development. Especially in the knowledgeable economy time, science&education developmental strategy sets a higher request for teachers. Although having a long history, Shanxi higher education doesn't have a big development. After a hundred year, teaching staff has not met the ideal requirement, which has become a bottleneck hindering the development of our province higher education. Taking teaching staff's structure of Shanxi HEIs as object, the thesis analyzes the teaching staff's structure by using the methods of document, comparative, investigation and statistical analysis.First, the study begins from the basic theories, thinks teaching staff's structure includes includes six constituent parts: the ratio of student and teacher, academic qualification, age, quality and knowledge&ability. The optimization must observe such as the scientific principle, integrity principle, key principle, mutually complementary principle to realize the optimizing goal. Second, the study analyses 1998-2004's teaching staffs structure of Shanxi HEIs through the vertical and horizontal compare. And finds some existing problems, such as teachers' total quantity is excess, academic qualifications are low, the proportion of high-level post title is low, the teaching staff is younger, high-level post title teachers are older, the professional ethics aren't ideal, the knowledge&ability structure is unitary etc., and points out that it's the result of many reasons such as history, environment, mechanism and system. Finally, based on the guiding ideology of "idea is forerunner, mechanism is core, system is guarantee", the study comprehensively analyses how to set up management ideas conforming to the time request, how to innovate the operating mechanism and how to perfect systems, and puts forward countermeasures to be taken in regard to optimizing the teaching staff's structures.The thesis is mainly for the purpose of finding if the teaching staff's structure of Shanxi HEIs is ideal, and puts forward some countermeasures to promote the development of teaching staff and Shanxi higher education.
