In recent years, with the development of educational reform, faculty's professional development has attached much importance day by day. Meanwhile, information technology which is changing with each passing day will lead people into the splendid information age, the emerging of information technology will break the traditional educational system comprehensively, force teachers to devote their all energy to the wave of professional development, treat the improvement of their professional quality with new opinions on space-time and educational value. This paper makes a preliminary research on faculty's professional development in the environment of information technology, starting from the connotation of faculty's professional development in the environment of information technology, arounding the requirement of faculty's professional development, poses and constructs the mechanism and model of faculty's professional autonomous development supported by information technology.This paper is divided into five parts, the content is as follows:The first part is introduction, clarifies the background of this topic, the present situation of research in china and abroad, the purpose, significance and research methods of this paper.The second part expounds the professional structure and content that faculty should possess, discusses the transform of faculty' professional role and interpretes the connotation of faculty's professional development in the environment of information technology.The third part makes clear the current situation and problems exist in the education and trainings of faculty, analyzes the deviation between the trainings and the factors of faculty's professional development, points out the contradiction between training content lacking target, only single goal, trainings being arbitrary ,trainers being too young ,the intermittent of training time and faculty's sustainable professional development.The forth part clearly poses the mechanism of faculty's professional autonomous development, expounds the base of faculty's professional autonomous development in the environment of information technology, clarifies the feasibility of faculty's professional autonomous development from six aspects: the inside drive of the aim of professional development ,the outside support of professional development space, the spontaneity of the request of professional development, the initiative of the state of professional development, the self-restraint of the process of professional development and the individuality of the content of professional development. Meanwhile , makes a deep analysis on the value of faculty's professional autonomous development.The fifth part poses and contracts three models which promote faculty's professional autonomous development by information technology and makes a detailed exposition on the characteristics and advantages of each pattern, including the model of Problem Discovery—Autonomous Cycle Inquiry supported by information technology, the model of Teachers' Corporative Development based on internet and the model of Electronic Records Evaluation based on reflection.
