Mathematics contest is a popular theme in the research on math teaching. However, most of the researchers confine their research to the contest itself, and do not study it from the perspective of teachers and students. The structure of this thesis is as follows: First, the author makes a general study of current research on mathematics contest, thereby raising assumption and researching method. In the second and third part, major theories related to mathematics contest and mathematical thinking will be summarized. As the core of this thesis, the fifth part will discuss the roles played by mathematics contest in thinking. In the author's opinion, these roles should be reflected in practical teaching and study. In this part, the author does research through case studies. In the last part, the author will give his own comment on the theories and cases mentioned in the former part, and revelations for teachers and students also will be provided. There are several important conclusions in this study as follows:1,Teachers can promote the development of students'thinking through contest and the key for that is to promote students'independent thinking. In the process of contest education, teachers play the role of guide. Students'mathematical thinking will be directly influenced by teachers'level and grounding in mathematics contest.2,Students can develop their mathematical thinking through studying the course of mathematics contest, which is a long-term process requiring their painstaking efforts. It is more important for the students to pay close attention to the learning process that the result.3,Mathematics contest should be considered as a process which trains students in their thinking. The positive roles of mathematics contest playing in students'thinking can only reveal in the long-term accumulation.
