Along with the deepening of social transformation, the system of unit as important component of China's political and social system has gradually disintegrated, thus a series of changes from macroscopic levels to microscopic levels took place, which also brought about a tremendous impact to the workers in state-owned enterprises. Their family income, political participation, social reputation and other aspects of social status had relative declined. Facing the changes of objective environment and their social status the self cognition of workers in state-owned enterprises had also changed somehow. On the one hand, there would be some disharmony between the new cognitive elements with the changes in society and the old cognitive elements that the workers in state-owned enterprises had, their tension and pressure occured. On the other hand, in comparison of the workers' group and the other groups under the new situation, the self cognition of the workers in state-owned enterprises would be impacted by stereotypes and other external factors. The dissertation discussed how the self-identity cognition of the workers in state-owned enterprises produced from the two angles of internal driving forces for easing cognitive dissonance and of external constructive power brought up by other groups' stereotypes to the workers, and how the workers in state-owned enterprises understood of their position in the entire structure of social strata.
