Incentive mechanism refers to the summaries of several items of work - to standardize and influence the behaviors of incentive objects to help them form a sense of self-identification by self-reflection and evaluation and inspire their interior motivation,and then objects behave in compliance with the aims of subjects.Student leaders in higher professional colleges have excellent comprehensive qualities,short post periods,and heavy working pressures,all of which have great impact on the work of student management.Based on various incentive theories and the characters of student leaders in higher professional colleges,A Questionnaire on Student Work Enthusiasm in Higher Professional Colleges was designed and the survey was carried out among some student leaders in four higher colleges in Chongqing.The results reflect:1.In the aspect of motivation of becoming student leaders:those students do this mainly for spiritual incentives.Students of different grades,genders and majors have different motivations. Common students have little understanding about the content,quality,manner and significance of student work.2.In the aspect of work enthusiasm:most student leaders can rationally realize that student work can practice and improve their abilities,so they have high enthusiasm in it.Student leaders of higher grades place more importance on teachers' and other students' trust on them,while those of lower grades put more emphasis on the improvement of their working abilities;those majoring in liberal arts pay more attention to other people's feeling and have stronger group consciousness than those in science,who think the improvement of working abilities and the realization of their values is more important.Common students have enthusiasm in student work just because of the charm and challenge of the work itself.The main reasons for student leaders' indifference in work are "it's unable to practice abilities or realize self values","no concern from leaders","having difficulty on interpersonal relations",etc..Most student leaders quit their jobs just because of "internship, graduation","reshuffle of students union","being too busy to study",etc..Meanwhile,they will also quit when their "creativities cannot be exerted" and "abilities cannot be exerted".3.In the aspect of most effective incentive measures:the most common choices are "being sincere to others","appreciation,support and encouragement for work","being approbated by others","opportunities of study and training",and "support from leaders",which show that student leaders in higher professional colleges place much importance on their relations with other students, the approval from others,and the opportunities to improve themselves.Student leaders of lower grades pay more attention to the trust and support from leaders,while those of higher grades are more eager for opportunities to be trained and to improve themselves,and for suitable posts to exert their abilities.According to the survey results,this paper holds the opinion that building incentive mechanism for student leaders in higher professional colleges should follow the tenet of serving students and keep to the principles of open and fairness,focusing on spiritual and positive incentive,incentive for different levels and kinds,and timely and moderate incentive.Building incentive mechanism includes building the interior incentive and exterior incentive.In the aspect of inner incentive,the following systems should be set up:scientific election system,complete training and education system to train student leaders systematically,career development system,effective leader arrangement system,and scientific performance evaluation system.In the aspect of exterior incentive,it needs enviromnental incentive mechanism,which involves creating good working environment and harmonious interpersonal relations,and emotional incentive mechanism,which concerned with satisfying the reasonable needs of student leaders,respecting and trusting them, helping them solve personal problems,and strengthening the communication between them.Incentives on student leaders is a systematic program,which calls for a united cooperation of all departments and sections of a college to build a good student leader group and create a favorable studying and living condition for all students.
