Emotional work is an emerging field in the study of organizational behavior in the last 20 years. As it has been proved that teacher is a kind of occupation with high burden of emotional work and educational researchers growingly aware of the importance of emotion, attitude and values to personal achievement and development, it is significant to explore the features of teacher's emotional work and its relationship with personal mental health, besides, it is meaningful for the improvement of effective teaching and life satisfaction.Based on the related literature on emotional work, this study clarified the relevant concepts and theories on emotional work and put forward the research purpose, meaning, and research method. Primary and middle school teachers were surveyed by the questionnaire method so as to see the developmental characteristics of there emotional work and its relationship with personality and mental health. Some standard research methods, such as variance analysis, correlation analysis, exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, multiple regression and structural equation model are employed so as to explore the relationship among emotional labor, personality and mental health. Those findings will give helpful information to teachers' human resource management and future study. The major findings in the study were described as follows:1. Teacher's emotion work includes five dimensions: requirement to emotional display, variety of expressed emotions, emotional surface acting, emotional deep acting and the customer interaction. The reliability and validity of the emotion work scale is satisfactory.2. There were significant demographic variable differences on teachers' emotional work. Significant differences of teacher's emotional work can be found between different school type, the emotional work burden of key school teachers and ordinary school teachers were higher than that in vocational school teachers, significant differences of teacher's emotional work can also be found in different age groups and different types of teachers(whether or not she is in charge of a class), the result shows the emotional work burden of teachers who are in charge of a class is much higher than that of teachers who are not in charge of a class. There is no significant difference of teacher's emotional work between different categories of sex; however, there are remarkable gender difference within the dimension of emotional deep acting and female teachers deep acting as significant higher than the male's.3. The correlation analysis of emotional work and mental health showed teacher's emotional work was significantly correlated with its mental symptoms, the higher the teachers' burden of emotional work, the higher the scores of psychological symptoms. What's more, however, the relationships between scl-90 and three dimensions of emotional work: variety of expressed emotions, emotional deep acting and the customer interaction show significant positive correlation, and requirement to emotional display, emotional surface acting has not significant correlation4. The correlation analysis of emotional work and personality showed teacher's emotional work was positively correlated with psychoticism and negatively correlated with extraversion-introversion, but there was no significant correlation between teachers' emotional work and neuroticism.5. The result of regression analysis showed personality trait significantly effect on teachers' mental health, more specific, psychoticism and neuroticism positively correlated with teachers' mental health and extraversion-introversion negatively correlated with teachers' mental health. Besides, the regression analysis also showed variety of expressed emotions, emotional deep acting and the customer interaction showed significant effect on mental health but requirement to emotional display, emotional surface acting showed no significant effect on mental health. This is consistent with the correlation analysis.
