Little attention has ever been paid to the foreign literature works in the Chinese reading materials in high school classroom teaching over the last decades. Since the introduction of the new curriculum standards, people have come to realize its importance in classroom teaching. Researches have been conducted from different aspects to analyze and synthesize these works and some results have been achieved in the respecting field. The essay hereafter is to have a further cultivation and discussion on the base of these achievements.The essay is divided into four parts. The first part is introduction, which gives a clear picture of its research background, the overall description of the related references, the purpose and its value as well as the means of research involved. Status of the foreign works in teaching material has been reviewed and its importance has been proved from the aspect of the curriculum standard. Meanwhile, changes of the amount and standard of these foreign works have been perceived from three sets of teaching materials ever introduced in Shanghai.The third part is intended to have a clearance in the areas where these foreign works teaching in Chinese classes in Shanghai are mistaken or misunderstood, the problems existing and the causes will thereafter be pointed out. The fourth part is to present the further thinking of the teaching methods and the related strategy. Personal suggestions will be put forward from the aspect of the selection of materials and classroom teaching.
