High-tensity exercise is known to cause oxidative stress and various kinds of cell and tissue damage through the generation of reactive oxygen species. Thus, oxidative stress had been associated with decreased physical performance, uscular fatigue, muscle damage and over training.Recently, many studies showed that high-tensity exercise resulted in the enhanced accumulation oxidative by-products of lipid peroxidation, decreased total antioxidant capacity, oxidative damage of cellular DNA and acute elevarton nitrite/nitrate content. Beside, oxidative stress also induced inflammatory responses that activated neutrophils and myeloperoxidase activity. Therefore, nutritionists suggest that antioxidant supplementation may result in a decreased oxidative damage and an improved immune function. Lycopene, a kind of red-colored carotenoids, has previously been shown to have high antioxidant activity. It can scavenge the free radical directly, improve the immune system and modulate metabolic pathways of the body. Furthermore, recent studies also found that dietary intakes of tomatoes and tomato products containing lycopene are associated with decreased risk of chronic diseases such as cancer and cardiovascular diseases in numerous recent studies. However, in the sport science study, effects of lycopene supplementation on exercise are still not clear. In the present study, we investigated the effects of lycopene supplementation at a dose (which is equivalent to an intake of 25 mg/day in humans) on antioxidant capacity in serum during exhaustive exercise. Twenty-eight adult male in RE.Departmeng will divided into the following four groups: control (C1andC2),lycopene (E1 andE2), E1 andE2 supply with lycopene capsule. All groups take exhaustive exercise after 14 days on the monark bike. C1 and C2 group performed an exhaustive test on bike at a final speed grade ,approximately 90%VO2max.The other testee performed an 30s×3min's interal anaerobic exercise on the monark bike.Finaly,we will determine antioxidant enzymes activities, such as glutathione peroxidase(GSH-PX),superoxide dismutase(SOD), T-AOC and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels, the marker of extent of lipid peroxidation in blood smples.Result showed that the antioxidant enzymes activities of human serum in lycopene group (E1andE2) significantly increased compared with group contrl after 14 days' supplement with lycopene before exercise. Exhuastive exercise resulted in asignificant in increase in MDA content of serum. There was no significant difference in the MDA content and antioxidant enzymes activity after two kind of exercise form. Obviously ,lycopene does protect human tisser after exhaustive exercise from oxidation.
