A Study In The Mass Media Environment Of The Ideological And Political Education Of College Students

Mass media plays a critical role in current information society. It can affect the community's values, political stance, moral concepts, and form the mass media environment in which people's thinking, ethics and conduct have been considerably influenced. Therefore, the media environment occupies an important position in the ideological and political education. Since the contemporary college students are active and demand for more information, coupled with their lack of adequate capacity of self-control and judgment, they become more susceptible to the impact of the mass media environment. This environment has both a positive impact on students as well as a negative one. It also brings tremendous opportunities and unprecedented challenges regarding the ideological and political education for university students. This paper is divided into three sections in a bid to analyze the impact of the mass media environment on college students, to clarify the current situation of the ideological and political education of them, and to propose helpful methods and ideas through which the construction of their ideological and political education could be completed.The first part is the preparation of the study, which is about to articulate the related conceptions of mass media environment and theories regarding the ideological and political education.Then, this paper is going to carry out a detailed analysis of the state of the ideological and political education of college students under the mass media environment. This analysis includes a summary of the status quo of contemporary students' ideas, a clarification of both the positive and negative impacts of the mass media environment upon the students, and a critical evaluation of both the opportunities and challenges facing the college students based upon the study of their ideological and political education.Finally, a conclusion of all relevant issues will be presented, including the implications and recommendations of creating a proper media environment in which the ideological and political education of college students can be improved. Also, the optimized principles and approaches of the mass media environment are to be emphasized in this paper. Regarding the construction of this environment, in a bid to realize the modernization of the ideological and political education of the college students, it is necessary to pool the strength of all different parties in the society, which might include the government regulation, the censorship of the mass media, and the collaborative efforts made by the ideological and political educators in colleges and the students themselves.
