Game-based learning software is one kind of computer application softwares. It provides an interactive learning platform full of incentive mechanism for the users. It can stimulate the learners′study motivation by entertainment, and can make the learners construct their knowledge with pleasure in the play situations as well. Developing and popularizing the game-based learning software is a potential development trend in computer education application.The author investigates and analyses the present situation of game-based learning software at home and abroad, and studies the effect of teaching theory and game theory in developing the game-based learning software. On this basis, one game-based learning software named"Clever Lala", which is based on the Mathematics Textbook of Primary Grade 3rd that published by the People's Education Press in 2003 , is designed and developed. The main process of the software development is as follows: In order to provide the basis for the architecture and planning of the game-based learning software, the teaching issue was designed firstly; then the composition elements, external effects, general structure, interactive functions and bonus-penalty system of the game-based learning software were designed, and the final game-script was formed finally; based on the game-script, four function modules including game house, exercise room, help cabin and gift hut were developed and realized. At the end, the application effect of the software was tested, and the results showed that the software had implementated all the expected functions, and achieved the practical application lever.The situation set in the current game-based learning software is far from reality, so it can neither provide a platform for the learners to apply their knowledge, nor make the learners experience the application of mathematics in life. Due to this, the author puts forward an idea of regarding familiar daily activities as game situation. This idea provides some thoughts for the situation setting of game-based learning software.
