At the turn of the century and in the face of the world trend of curriculum reform, all social circles of Taiwan of our country also begin to pay attention to the local education reform. In 1998, Taiwan issued Nine-year Consistent Education Curriculum Outline of National Education as a guideline document of curriculum reform. The main features of this reform are: emphasizing the development of the students'abilities, discarding the discipline-based model of curriculum design and combining into seven learning fields of language, social studies, arts & humanity, mathematics, science & technology, and synthetic activity according to the correlation of contents among the different disciplines. Among them, social study field was integrated by the previous Geography, History and Civil morality mainly aiming to make students receive civil education. This advanced education concepts highlight the feature of students-oriented and training the ability to guide students with an eye to both the future and the present.In China's mainland, elementary education has been emphasizing sciences & looking down on humanities and emphasizing divided disciplines & looking down on comprehensive course so that the research on comprehensive social course has been ignored for a long time. The backwardness of theory makes social course reform lose the center of gravity. Since our country issued and carried out Elementary Education Discipline Reform Outline (Trial) in 2001, the research on social studies course has sprung up gradually. At present, course practice strongly needs research on theory, therefore, it's essential for us to further study and probe social studies course aiming at civil education so that social studies course can live up to expectations to burden the important task of training students'various civil abilities to adapt to the future life in the current social transformation period.The thesis has three parts: The first part set forth cause and outline of curriculum in social study field on the basis of introducing and analyzing relevant concepts to grasp the curriculum frame evolution of Taiwan social science and the importance of curriculum integration design; The second part made detailed analysis of curriculum design in social study field based on the ability-based concept and summed up the main features of curriculum design; The third part deeply analyzed problems and defects of social studies curriculum design in China's mainland by analyzing curriculum design features of social study field in Taiwan and investigating status quo of social studies curriculum frame in mainland area. Beginning with this, this part further put forward inspiration and enlightenment that curriculum design of Taiwan social study field brings us.At present, the concept of quality-oriented education has found its way deep into people's hearts. New curriculum reform is being pushed solidly and steadily. By analyzing and contrasting social studies curriculum design in Taiwan area of our country in the current background, the study hopes for facilitating the relevant reform of education fields being developed by China's mainland.
