The senior high school intramural examination is a type of examination whose examinatorial standard and content are independent of the intevention from any extramural organization or group. It provides feedback through examining students' study, thus condusive to students' development.Since the establishment of the PRC, senior high school intramural examination in Hubei province has been fuctioning for nearly 60 years. In the process,it has made tremendous contribution to the raising of the educational quality within the i senior high schoo in Hubei. With the passing of time and the change of people's view on talent, "qality-oriented education" made its apperance in Hubei senior high schools. With the advent of the 21st century, the new curriculum reform in senior high school has confronted the Hubei senior high school intramural examination system with a new wave of challenges and reforms. It is against this background that this thesis explores the development of the senior high school intramural examination system in Hubei province. The article is composed of four parts:Part I serves as the introduction of this study, which introduces the literature review and the purpose of this thesis, and defines some key concepts to be used in this thesis.Part II attempts a brief review of the senior high school intramural examination system in Hubei province since the birth of PRC. It explores the general situation of the intramural examination system, the rules and features of the ensuing intramural examination reforms at three stages, namely, "Before the Cultural Revolution", "During the Cultural Revolution" "and After the Cultural Revolution". It also offers some insights into the current intramural examination reform.Part III gives a close examination of the "quality-based credit system" proposed by No. 1 Middle School Attached to Central China Normal University, a pioneer in Hubei senior high school intramural examination system reform. It discusses the historical background, content, features and reflection of the "quality-based credit system" in No. 1 Middle School Attached to Central China Normal University so as to provide insights to the intramural examination system reform.Part IV starts with an introduction to the senior high school new curriculum reform and the demands it imposes on the intramural examination system. Then based on the experiences gained by the pilot senior high schools in implementing the new curriculum reform, and the insights presented by the two preceding parts, it provides some advice for the senior high school intramural examination system reform against the background of the new curriculum reform.This theis aims to examine the problems in the senior high school intramural examination system reform against the background of the new curriculum reform. Reformation originates from the citical inheritance of tradition, from the review of the reforming practice, and from the full understanding of the historical background and the analysis of advanced idea. Based on the "development of the senior high school intramural examination system in Hubei Province" , the "quality-based credit system" proposed by No. 1 Middle School Attached to Central China Normal University, the spirit of the new curriculum reform and the experiences gained by some pilot high schools in implementing the reform, this thesis attempts to grant some insights and advice to Hubei senior high school intramural examination system reform against the background of the new curriculum reform.
